Today, our team had the incredible privilege of visiting Machu Picchu!
Our day began before sunrise as we left Urubamba and headed to the train station in Ollantaytambo. From there, we boarded a train to Aguas Calientes for a beautiful ride through the Sacred Valley. For about an hour and a half, we were surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery, winding rivers, and views that reminded us again of the beauty of God’s creation.
When we arrived in Aguas Calientes, we met our guides and boarded buses for the thirty-minute drive up to Machu Picchu. The road climbed steeply up the mountain with many switchbacks, and the views along the way were incredible.
Once we arrived, our team divided into three groups, each led by a guide who took us through the site and explained the history and significance of what we were seeing. Machu Picchu is truly breathtaking—both because of the stunning views and because of the many stairs we climbed throughout the visit! It is easy to understand why this remarkable place is recognized as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
We are so thankful for the opportunity to visit and experience such an amazing part of Peru’s history and culture. Throughout this trip, our team has had the privilege of seeing many different parts of the country, from the busy streets of Lima to the mountains of Cuzco and Urubamba. Today was a special reminder of the creativity, beauty, and majesty of our Creator.
After leaving Machu Picchu, we drove back down the mountain, took the train back to Ollantaytambo, and then continued by van to Cuzco. From there, we returned to the airport and boarded a late flight back to Lima.
It was a long day full of travel, exploration, and unforgettable memories, but we are thankful to the Lord for safety, strength, and the opportunity to experience this together as a team.
Tomorrow, our team will take time to rest before we begin our journey back to the United States on Sunday. Please continue to pray for safety, health, and smooth travel as our time in Peru comes to a close.
